ὁ Ξενοφῶν, ἡγεμὼν ἄριστος, ἔσωσε τοὺς Ἕλληνας.
Xenophon, an excellent leader, saved the Greeks.
πολλὰς ὥρας ἐπορευόμεθα, ἀλλ’ οὐδεμίαν κώμην ηὕρομεν.

The mountain on the island is very beautiful.
The men waiting in the market-place are prisoners.
οἱ ἐν τῃ ἀγορᾳ μενοντες δεσμωται εἰσιν.
Did you see the woman who was carrying the food, old man?
ἀρα εἰδες την τον σιτον φερουσαν, ὠ γερον;
I enjoy running.
ἡδομαι τῳ τρεχειν.
Are people now wiser than people long ago?
ἀρα οἱ νυν σοφωτεροι εἰσιν ἠ οἱ παλαι;
Some of the citizens praised the speaker, others hated him.
οἱ μεν των πολιτων ἐπῃνεσαν τον ῥητορα, οἱ δε ἐμισουν αὐτον.
ἡ γυνὴ οἶδε δεξιὰ οὖσα.
The woman knows that she is skilled.
μὴ εἰσέλθῃς εἰς τὸν ποταμόν.
Don’t go into the river!
παραινῶ τοῖς παισὶν ἀεὶ σαφῶς λέξαι.
I encourage the children always to speak clearly
ὁ ξένος, τὸν τοῦ βασιλέως υἱὸν φονεύσας, εὐθὺς ἔφυγεν.
The stranger, having murdered the king’s son, immediately fled.
ταῦτα μανθάνω ὡς σοφώτερος γενησόμενος.
I am learning these things in order to become wiser.
