20. Anterior Forearm and Wrist Flashcards
Name the muscles in each layer of the anterior compartment of the forearm
Superficial - pronator teres, flexor carpi radialis, palmaris longus, flexor carpi ulnaris
Intermediate - flexor digitorum superficialis
Deep - pronator quadratus, flexor digitorum profundus, flexor pollicus longus
Where is the common flexor orgin?
Medial epicondyle of humerus
What nerve supplies the majority of the muscles of the forearm? What are the exceptions to this?
Median nerve (C7, C8)
EXCEPT - flexor carpi ulnaris and ring/little finger side of flexor digitorum profundus (ulnar nerve)
What is the most superficial muscle of the anterior compartment of the forearm?
Palmaris longus
Insertion of palmaris longus?
Palmar fascia (aponeurosis)
Function of palmaris longus?
Tighten apouneurosis
Aids wrist in flexion
Origins of pronator teres?
Superficial head -Medial epicondyle of humerus
Deep head - coronoid process of ulna
Insertion of pronator teres?
Lateral surface of radius
What nerve runs through the heads of pronator teres?
Median nerve
Function of pronator teres?
Pronation
Also assists elbow flexion
Insertion of flexor carpi ulnaris?
Base of pisiform, hamate and 5th metacarpal
Function of flexor carpi ulnaris?
Wrist adduction and flexion
Innervation of flexor carpi ulnaris?
Ulnar nerve C7-C8
Insertion of flexor carpi radialis?
Base of 2nd metacarpal
Function of flexor carpi radialis?
Abduction of wrist and flexion
