What is an aim?
A general statement about the topic you are studying- not testable
What is a hypothesis?
A prediction- testable (what you expect to happen)
What is operationalisation?
To make variables clear, specific and measurable
What is the independent variable?
Changes (2 conditions)
What is the dependent variable?
Measurement
What is a 1-tailed, directional hypothesis
- knows how it’s going to go (PAST RESEARCH)
Experiment: girls will achieve more A star-Bs than boys on their A-level psych exam
Correlation: there will be a positive relationship between height and shoe size
2-tailed, non directional hypothesis
- no past research
Experiment: there will be a significant difference between boys and girls in the A-level psych grades 2025
Correlation: there will be a correlation between your pinky finger and little toes
