Winter Notes/Pitching Flashcards
January 6, 2021. Gotten into some bad habits. Not keeping arm straight and holding triangle. On my downswing slow it down transfer your weight go through the transition then swing.
I was having trouble hitting the ball and I noticed that my right elbow was flying out instead of staying anchored to my right side. So on the downswing it’s going to anchor my right elbow to my right side and it’s going to pivot going into impact.
Also I was experimenting with hitting just a little bit of the left side of the ball so it starts a little bit right and then draws to the left. Plus only 3/4 swing with short FF on short irons. Minimal shoulder turn.
I was doing well with hitting fairway woods. I just have to swing slow go through that transition and then it feels like I’m doing a towel snap on the impact. My right shoulder must be going underneath going down sidearm into impact.
So on the backswing don’t hinge it up until the top of the backswing right elbow is hinged to the right side and will pivot in a side arm pitch into impact. Do not forget to make the transition and weight change before you go into impact. Going into impact my right shoulder will be down like I’m throwing under hand. Left wrist bowed snap 5” divot, RH cupped then together on impact. Impact with both hands but lead with left.
DVD GOLF 3: pitches, 7-12 minutes Red shirt very good! Talks about cocking your wrist going back, then straighten it back out almost completely at impact. Continue on the target line with the bowed wrist. Impact the ball on the fourth line from the bottom on your club and hit down on it. Use a low approach.
Mickelson, FF ONLY TO 8:00. Tiger red shirt Accelerate pivot after impact.
Watson DVD: CHIPPING
Grip pressure very light. Need to feel weight of clubhead. Shaft leans forward. Lead with left arm. For your set up on your stance be square then open then twist back upper body back to square. Use leg action to help flow. Make your landing spot. Right knee slightly kicked in. Like to grip in the center of the grip.
Pitching with Martin Hall DVD. On follow through, get the trail shoulder out to the lead foot this is a tip from Nick Faldo it makes you get through the ball.
Distance control was determined by chest rotation speed this is Faldo. Again, slow chest equals short shot fast chess equals long shot or you can do the length of the swing which is my old way. I like the new way.
Uphill lie, be careful the uphill lie adds tons of loft! Instead of using a wedge, maybe use the five iron and tap it. Aim to the right shot will hook.
Lie above feet, going to hook left. Choke up, flatten out your swing.
Lie below feet ball will go right. Bend more, butt out, Aim left. Weight on your heels.
