Q
Card 1. SOG Driving
- Do three or four horizontal swings to feel pattern.
- TA keep CF facing the ball on first part of TA.
- To close CF and hit ball straight, COAST on DS and open stance to target. REM Left Glute between the legs on FF.
- Kick in rear knee a little so you have weight on inside of right foot. This helps getting weight off rear foot on impact. REM “knees please” see #5 other side of card.
A
- On setup with Driver, push with hand your right thigh to the left a little.
- Like in the Hogan book, you should setup like you are knock kneed.
- Ref. IPAD video with water wing between forearms. When you impact the ball and finish the shot, your forearms SB close to each other enough so that the water wing is lightly squeezed. Duffers forearms push apart on FF. REM tennis ball between lower forearms.
- Treveno. Break the knees into forward swing. REM “Knees Please”.
- If you take a practice swing, pick an impact target on a clump of grass.
- Rick’s Driver tip. Left toes SB one inch forward toward the tee than your right foot. i.e. Open stance on Driving and other clubs.

Card 2: My usual faults:
- I forget to keep shaft on plane on DS.
- I forget to shift weight. Knees Please.
- I swing with arms and forget to create triangle on BS.
- I forget BS SB up to bookshelf, then Bowed wrist on my DS. This is critical and makes me hit weak shots plus the bowed wrist keeps the CF closed at impact.
- I forget to raise up left foot on BS and I mess up swing by keeping weight on rear foot.
A
- I forget to COAST on DS plus I swing too hard. I must remember to delay, delay, delay the impact on my swing. (not building lag)
- I forget to pause at top of BS and visualize my plane to swing the shaft on path of plane.
- I swing too fast, especially on chipping or short irons. Swing slowly like regular shot.
- I forget to twist up, twist down. Important! If I forget to do this, I hit worm-burners all day long. The twisting up and down is what gets my ball up in the air.

Q
Driving range 5/30.22. I haven’t golfed in two weeks and picked up some bad habits.
- Swinging DS with my arms plus swinging outside around the ball. FIX is to guide GRIP** back between ball and feet. This will help you rotate body in order to swing. Plus, use feet and **knees please to DS. Makes a huge difference on solid hits.
- Make certain on top of BS that you are rotating on plane.
- Coast on DS to impact. This beats hitting with your arms! The coast DS is slow but very, very smooth.
- On driver, Use your regular setup impact at rear of ball. Have feet offset so right foot toes line up with center of your left foot. Make certain both arms are together in the V and coast into impact. Tee it up about ½ lower, then hit straight through it. Not upward but straight level! Makes a nice line drive. No need to knuckles down. The offset feet setup was the problem that Rick fixed for me.
A
4,5,6,7 irons use a slight offset setup. But make sure you FF out to the right! On the 6 iron, TA slightly inside then impact to the right like a helicopter.
8,9, pw, SW use normal setup but FF to right because of the club’s loft.
3Hybrid Bobby Jones use normal setup. Wouldn’t hurt to FF a little to the right.
Epic Hybrid, Normal setup.
Above all else, Rotate rotate rotate hips, legs and shoulders.
Do several mock swings practicing timing, turning and Coasting!

Card #4
Swing/Driving tips from SOG Sept. 2022
- On your TA and BS “V”, Keep Left elbow pointing downward to left hip. People normally rotate the left elbow on TA and BS. This rotation causes CF to open, resulting in a sliced Drive.
- Kicking inward of left knee on BS should be delayed until late in the TA and BS.
A
- At top of BS you SB able to lift Right heel off the ground.
- Pretend you have a golf bucket on shaft. Now on BS the bucket SB dumped BEHIND YOU. It is wrong if you dump the bucket ON YOU!
- Seve Balastaros did a drill at setup, simply hinge the club straight up toward your chest. From there, make your BS.
