My Swing/Addendum DP Flashcards
Fairway woods and drives:
- Flatter swing could prevent drives from skying!
- Long irons and woods take a very long time before impact. Do not rush this and screw up your shot. On all my great drives that went like a rocket, it took a very, very long time until impact.
Pitching:
ON ALL PITCHES, TRY TO GET A FLUFFED UP LIE!
- With sand wedge, front style. 20 Yards: BS to 0800, not hinged, works well. High shot then settles.
- With sand wedge: 30 yards: BS to 0800, hinged, works well. HIgh shot then settles. Can easily go to 40 yards by powering more with right hand and hitting harder. Remember on all pitches swing body into the shot, turning chest to target of FF.
- With square strike (SS) everything just the same as sand wedge. SS will not go as high but will run toward the target much more.
Short pitches
SAND WEDGE AT 30 YARDS:
- First thing is to determine my swing line. I look at target and look at my swing path. With the wedge, I need to aim to the right because the wedge loft makes a 30 yard pitch go left.
- Before I actually make my swing, I practice my swing two or three times making certain it will take me to the target. Also another reason I do this is to grip the club LIGHTLY and get the feel of the club head weight.
- REMEMBER TO USE PERCISION GRIP AND TO LIFT HEEL OF CLUB OFF THE GROUND AT ADDRESS. This prevents chunking and shanking. Remember these pitch shots are slow motion shots. Swing slowly and watch CF contact ball. Have patience during swing.
SQUARE STRIKE AT 30 YARDS:
Use everything I just stated for the sand wedge at 30 yards. On the SS there is no need to open the CF on TA. It is more consistent keeping it square because it goes straight instead of left.
To launch the pitch very high like the Sand Wedge, use the hinge and unhinge at impact. Brace the shot with my right hand supporting the metal just below the grip on my impact.
Remember to do the setup and the Chest first FF using the SS just like you did on the Sand wedge.
SAND TRAP
Remember Faldo imitating Seve using the 3 iron in the sand trap. The swing looks and feels more like you are swinging an axe more than making a golf shot. BUT it works so well!
- Hinge up and turn CF upward just like you did with the pitching wedge then make your body weight turn into your AXE shot 2 inches behind the ball. It flies out of the bunker about 6 feet high.
1. End the shot with a very high FF.
Doing all this is moving 2 inches of sand plus the ball out of the bunker, so it is a forceful, slow swing!
The swing line is very flat to chop the sand and ball out, not to dig into the sand, but more to shovel it out with body momentum.
- 3 Wood and driver went well after I slowed down my swing and timed pivot with throwing hinge into impact. Remember the longer the club, the slower you swing until finally it is ready. Do not hit with your arms, hit with the thrown hinge into the ball.
This feels like my DS is following my grip between ball and my toes.
