2023 How To Fix CF & Path PULLS Flashcards

1
Q

UPDATE: I tried this method but it got too hard to remember to DS hitting the square back of the ball path. Most of the time I hit ball at 4:00 and it sent the ball far to the right.

I made some new cards to correct pulls at the end of the original study cards I made back in May 2022.

May 2022

Card 01: HITTING THROUGH THE 4:00

A new method for preventing pulls and stop the slicing with driver.

From my new Golf Book, “The complete golf manual”.

At the range I learned a new type of impact that works on all clubs and when done correctly, the balls go dead straight!

Instead of contact dead center at rear of ball, open the CF just a little so it matches a squared impact at the 4:00 position. This I will call hit it through the 4.

A

To make this contact all squared, CF to ball I match the CF so it is squared to the 4 position at setup.

This requires the CF to be open enough to squarely impact through the 4.

Now when I say hit through the 4, I mean do not stop at contact. Just like tennis, hit through the imaginary sleeve of balls at the 4 position.

To be setup correctly, I must open the CF blade and also adjust my feet to a point where everything is square.

This normally is using a closed stance whereas my feet will have a clock position roughly at 10 and 4.

My left foot will be about 1.5 inch closer to ball than my right foot.

Now it looks like I am going to hit the ball way to the left!

To make the ball go dead straight, with all clubs my FF MUST BE TO THE RIGHT, just like the Arnold Palmer helicopter FF.

When done correctly, the ball goes very straight. If I forget to FF to the right I will have a terrible PULL shot.

A

On using the Driver to tee off, the only thing I must add is to TURN KNUCKLES DOWN on left hand going into impact. This squares the CF so my ball will go straight instead of slicing to the rough/trees on the right side of the fairway.

At this point, I am thinking to turn knuckles on all shots but I need to experiment at the range to see what works on all the different shots I normally make. So this will be me shot shaping!

I also learned that doing this hit through the 4 method, I can really make the ball draw by not FF my new way to the right and simply FF straight like I have done for years. I did this by accident at Ballwin, on 150 yard approach shot to #3 green. I pulled my 6 iron and hit a line drive shot to the tee box on #4 hole!

Q

New and improved Pull fix begins here.

November 2022.

Causes of pulls to the left:

Hank Haney, your ball pulls to the left because you are hitting the outside of the ball one of three ways.

  1. Swinging over the top in DS.
  2. CF closed too much.
  3. Path problem. A. If you hit the ground before the ball, CF closes.

B. If you hit shallow

Both problems depends where you are bottoming out the swing. If you bottom out in front of ball, your CF closes! This is a CF issue.

Path Pull HT Fix

If ball is too forward, move ball back in your stance because your CF is catching it too late in the swing.

R foot in a bit and left foot straight. On TA, weight in on R foot insole. Have feet offset like Rick told you to stop slicing.

or the CF pull:

Your TA is too much inside. This makes your body hang back thus your CF is closing at impact because you are forcing CF closed to hit ball and you end up hitting outside of ball.

This is same as ball too far forward, it makes catching ball too late in swing.

A

The Fix

R. foot flared in a little with BS weight on the insole of your right foot.

Left foot square to target line. Feet offset a little.

Ball a little more rearward in stance. Your club grip SB in line with your genitals. SB a 3 to 4 inch gap between left foot and the ball at setup.

On your TA, follow the 4:00 path which will take the shaft inward into your BS. Then on the DS, follow the 4:00 path, but impact the ball square on the back center of the ball.

Review. TA at 4:00 then on DS, lead with your left arm and shoulder into exact back center of the ball. Driving your left arm and shoulder is important to force ball straight.

If you have a downhill lie, then upon impact bring your left shoulder upward. Otherwise you will swing around your body and pull the shot badly. Swing slow and in control.

Notes:

Your right knee moving in slide more than turning. More hip rotation instead of lateral slide pulls ball to the left. Start lateral slide by moving Right knee in, then pivot pelvis.

REM SOG lateral first then pelvis! REM knees please!

During entire swing, maintain the rigid V arms. Keeping this V rigid equals much power in your swing.

Q

2023 February 13th. Range First trip out for 2023. I discovered that starting DS with grip pointing to target I made good contact and hit ball very well.

Most clubs were good. I noticed that leading grip for complete swing pulls shot, but just starting DS with grip works perfectly most of the time.

Nine, Eight and driver need a lot of work. I was practicing turning glute on swing and FF out to right/target. Had about 20% success. I’ll keep practicing this until all shots look good like this.

Hit it hard as you want and it will not hook, so long as you fully rotate pelvis on impact. If you only partially shift pelvis, you will pull ball dead left because YOU SWUNG AROUND YOUR FULCRUM. Pelvis must be completely facing target forward on your finished shot pose. I cannot feel pelvis turning, but concentrated on chest turning to TARGET at impact. This makes a solid shot. (Later focused on griped bottom of “V” in-line to swing path.) 3. I also added a short pause at top of BS. This gives me time to line up my underhand right elbow with plane line. (See, if I didn’t allow time for this adjustment, I would panic and go ahead with the bad swing. The pause at the top gives me an adjustment period to make a good shot. It also slows me down an prevents me swinging from the top!
