Heuristics 2018 Flashcards
Heuristics 8/30
Discovered Deshambu’s no hinge, no wrist bend straight arm swing. Works great on short irons going very straight and long. I even tried it on 3H and 3W drives and they go very straight! Some danger of skying the drive or hard push right if I do not aim my grip just left of the ball on my transition.
This method works well on 6 and 7 irons also. They are the straightest I ever hit.
Formula:
Everything the exact same on normal swing except no hinge, no wrist cock. Using Left heel then Right pivot as normal makes nice drives and normal shots.
[Special note: there is the normal hinge at the book shelf. Try to work in my grip point left of ball during transition and my normal DP release. This will give me more power and stop me from skying the drive. So do the Book Shelf mini hinge, then the tip of grip before the DP release]
With pitching < 50 yards I use SW backswing to 0900 then FF low with CF facing sky above and turn chest and body on all longer pitches.
10/5/18
Here are some steps to ingrain into my swing. Main one is left heel up then down and pivot. This causes me lots of poor shots when I often forget to do it.
Thought: “Left heel up, pause then pivot”
TA/BS
- CF faces ball
- Batter up position, grip close to body
- Full shoulder turn. Pause
- Right wrist hinged up.
TRANS/DS
- Left heel down; right side pivot Furyk transition
- Aim grip inline with address inclined angle. [easy with grip to body]
- Bowed wrist into impact.
Remarks:
Use a 3/4 swing on Driver to 5 Iron. [Inside TA; closed stance]
Use a 1/2 swing on clubs 6 iron to PW.
Yardages short Irons Card #1
Club Full/Half Carry
PW Full 90
PW Half 90
9 Iron Full 90/100
9 Iron Half 90/100
8 Iron Full 100
8 Iron Half 100
7 Iron Full 125
7 Iron Half 125
6 Iron Full 130
6 Iron Half 125
These are carry distances. The ball goes another 10 to 25 yards after it hits the ground.
- Short Irons carry same distance because of loft. No matter Full or half swing. Full swings just make the ball go higher, not carry more. Also, Remember to hit down on the ball with the shorter Irons. Mainly PW, 9 and 8.
- So … make all short irons half shots. These are much easier to hit straight!
- Short Irons shorter than the 6 iron make certain to TA straight back and slightly outward.
- Feet are straight on these short irons, not closed on PW through 7. On 6 iron you can now hit closed stance and TA to slight inside. They are going straight with the A swing.
- 3 Wood teed up three lines down from the top. Remember to pause on end of BS and hit ball with bottom of hinged left hand. It will be bowed when it gets to impact.
- Remember left heel down right pivot! I forget this way too many times and mess up my shot and hit with my arms again.
- Driver tee to top line on Driver face. Setup 3 inches behind the ball. Left foot setup with the 3 inches back. This makes me reach for the ball, but the drives go pretty straight most of the time. Also with 3 Wood use this same 3 inches back then setup.
Card #2
Keys to long and straight hits
- Tension, prayer grip and tension holding triangle.
- TA Left wrist hinge up. TA straight back not inside on short irons. Irons 6 and longer you TA slight inside.
- Be certain you are tracing the TA with CF pointing to ball. This gives you the automatic square CF on impact without having to think about it.
- Pause then start DS slow as start of TA. [Yes I want to match my plane at setup, but because of my foot alignment and my TA paths, this is automatic now and I do not have to think about it.]Keeping the grip end of the club close to my body automatically sets up the in to out alignment and matches my setup position.
- Left heel then pivot.
- On plane DS matches address plane. [Automatic]
- Pivot and Piston pump together! [Shoulders turn declining motion]
- Slightly closed CF at address longer Irons > 7.
- Go from cup at the bookcase to bowed at impact. This bow gives lots of extra yardage.
- Review and know your swing path at your target.
- Make preview swing like with SW pitch.
- Align Quads to swing path.
- Setup and think “what is my swing path”.
Sand Bunker
Today at the range I learned to choke down on the SW, then make the chili dipper swing to pop the ball high out of the sand trap. This chili dipper means that right at contact, I snap my wrist and try to scoop the ball out of the sand. This works well. Have to guard against double hits, but it is an easy swing [not forceful and hard] and as the CF is going under the ball in the sand, the chili dipper grabs the ball and flings it high in the air so it lands softly and rows to the hole.
Swing thought to execute this shot is to snap the end of the grip into my stomach in the middle of the shot. Works well.
Enter the sand about 2 inches in front of the ball.
Putting: From library book.
- P40. A circular motion – for longer putts.
- BS slightly inside target line. Putt willl be slightly inside going to impact face will look open. This is from Body rotation, not arms.
- Do not rock shoulders on putting!
- Think “I will make this putt”
- Psychology putting: Don’t monkey around with a good putting method. You have good days and bad doing everythiing right.
- Focus on process, not outcome!
