Middle and short irons, 50% on both legs.
One handspan separates hands from thighs. P. 25
Ascertain everything is square to my target line esp. toes and shoulders.
Remarks:
Card 03: Takeaway
Takeaway slow and smooth, keeping the CF square to the path of my swing. Your hitting zone 12” before and 12” after impacting the ball.
Remarks:
Card 04: Swing speed P. 28
First of all, swing like you are swinging a pail of water. Slow and smooth. Most pros do not swing faster than 75% of their ability. Your goal is hitting the fairway or green, NOT the longest distance.
Practice swinging through two golf shafts on the ground spaced two Driver heads apart. P. 34. When you can do this most of the time you should go to the next level of classes.
This is a very important drill that will do wonders for your ability to direct ball flight to the fairway or the green.
Remarks:
Card 05: Teeing it up.
P. 34. Driver teed up ball SB half way sticking up over the CF.
For an iron, tee it up just so the base of the tee is visible in the ground.
Swing the Driver the same speed you swing your wedge. At the range practice alternating Driver/wedge until you get used to it. P. 35.
Remarks:
Card 06: Transfer your weight just like a boxer. Weight on hind foot until you transfer weight to front foot when you throw the punch. P. 36
All upper body is behind ball at setup. P. 36
A balanced FF proves you are not overswinging. If no balance, then you are overswinging.
Remarks:
Card 07: Regain your “Swoosh” to help your rhythm.
Swing the club upside down to recapture your rhythm and timing. At the lowest part of your swing, the grip should be about 12 inches from the ground. You can practice this while waiting on the tee or fairway.
When you hear the Swoosh, your timing is correct.
MN: This is a good way to recover from a bad shot. Kind of like a compass showing you how to time your swing. P. 33.
Remarks:
Card 08:
P. 40. Use stronger grip to correct slices.
Use weaker grip to correct hooks.
P. 39. Choke down on your Driver. Gives better ability to close CF at impact. Also, on setup, close your CF 3/8” to assist being square on impact.
Remarks:
Card 09: Hit the back of the net. P. 37.
Everyone is jittery on the tee box. So next time on the tee box, use the very same thoughts that are used on your practice shots into the net. This relieves the worry thoughts and it works great on water holes too!
Remarks: This is last card for level one drills.
