What is the cause and effects of IBD?
A
- Fibrous scar tissue over intestine
- reduces absorption
- creates obstruction
- infections and ulcers
- Rupture -> peritonitis

What diseases are associated with IBD and their effects?
A
Chrons diseas and ulcerative colitis (UC)
- fatigue, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, weight loss
- Active UC = continuous blood diarrhoea, malabsorption, fluid and electrolyte loss

What is the aim of IBD treatment?
A
To suppress inflammation and alleviate symptoms

What type of drugs are used for treatment?
A
Analgesics
Antidiarrhoeals
Glucocorticoids
eg. prednisolone
