- reduce blood vol -> reduce workload of heart
- thick ascending loop of henle
- reduce oedema, heart size,
- hypokalaemia and alkalosis

- Inhibit NaCl reabsorption
- distal tubule
- hyponatraemia and hyperuricaemia

- inhibit Na reabsorption and decrease K excretion, blocks aldosterone
