What is the hyloconfluence?
Where the left and right hepatic ducts join
What is Mirizzi’s syndrome/
When there a big gallstone that cant leave the gallbladder but pushes the gallbladder down to sit on the bile duct and block it
What is cholangitis?
Infection of the bile duct
Where is bilirubin conjugated?
In the liver
What does liver conjugation of bilirubin do?
Makes it water soluble
What does high conjugated bilirubin indicate?
Bilirubin has got to the liver but cant get into the gut due to obstruction
Why do high liver enzyme levels indicate liver failure?
Liver cells lysise and leak enzymes into the blood increasing levels
What are symptoms of jaundice?
Itchiness
Yellow skin, scelra
What level of bilirubin is needed for the patient to go yellow?
