Q

What does the EIU SEL switch do? It has 4 positions. L, AUTO, C, and R.

A

EUI selector: EFIS/EICAS Interface Unit.
An EIU looks at all of the airplane systems and creates EFIS display and EICAS messages based on system conditions. There are 3 EIUs. You can select them manually or leave it in AUTO.

13
Q

In AUTO, what will an EIU do?

A

It defaults to EIU L. If that fails, it goes to EIU C. If that fails, it goes to EIU R.

14
Q

In AUTO, an EIU can switch to another EIU if one fails. If you manually select any of them (L, C, R), will they switch if one fails?

A

No. Manual selection of an EIU means that automatic switching is inhibited.

Q

What does the CANC switch do?

A

1.) It cancels caution and advisory messages (when on the last page)
2.) It displays next page of messages if multiple pages exist
3.) It cancels the red box for an engine exceedance if no longer in that condition.

Q

What does the RCL (recall) switch do?

A

-Displays all caution and advisory messages (if condition still exists) that you previously cancelled
-Redisplays red box for engine exceedances
-Displays first page of messages when multiple pages exist

17
Q

What do the master WARNING/CAUTION reset switches do?

A

They extinguish the lights in that switch and silence the aural warnings. (Does not get rid of EICAS messages)

18
Q

What does the G/S INHIBIT switch do on the GRD PROX panel?

A

Push: Inhibits glideslope alert when pushed below 1,000 RA

Amber illumination: Means alert is occurring (inhibited when pushed)

19
Q

What does the FLAP OVRD switch do on the GRD PROX panel?

A

It inhibits the “TOO LOW FLAPS” alert when you push the switch

20
Q

What does the GEAR OVRD switch do on the GRD PROX panel?

A

It inhibits the “TOO LOW GEAR” alert when you push the switch.

21
Q

When would you hear a “TOO LOW GEAR” alert?

A

Gear not down and locked, any thrust lever idle, and RA less than 800’

22
Q

What does the TERR OVRD switch do on the GRD PROX panel?

A

It inhibits look-ahead terrain alerts and the terrain display.

23
Q

On the ND terrain display, what does dotted green mean?

A

Terrain from 2,000’ to 500’ (250’ with gear down) below the plane

24
Q

On the ND terrain display, what does dotted amber mean?

A

Terrain is from 500’ (250’ with gear down) to 2,000’ above the plane

25
Q

On the ND terrain display, what does dotted red mean?

A

Terrain is more than 2,000’ above the plane

26
Q

On the ND terrain display, what does dotted magenta mean?

A

No terrain data available

27
Q

On the ND terrain display, what does solid amber and solid red mean?

A

Solid amber: Look-ahead terrain alert
Solid red: Look-ahead terrain warning

28
Q

Above the main EICAS, there is a switch called EVENT RCD. What does it do?

A

The EIUs automatically store MX events in their memory. However you can manually record up to 6 EICAS messages by pressing the EVENT RCD switch. 1 press = 1 message stored

29
Q

Where to STATUS messages display?

A

Lower EICAS, must select the STATUS button

30
Q

Explain all of the different classifications of EICAS messages.

A

3 main groups:
Alert messages, memo, and status.

Alert: Warning, caution, advisory (primary method of alerting from engine start to shutdown. Have QRH procedure associated for all except for those with > symbol). Displayed on primary EICAS

Memo: Remind crew of system positions and configurations. White. On primary EICAS

Status: All are listed in DDG to provide guidance on dispatch capability. White. On lower EICAS.

31
Q

What does a > mean before an alert message?

A

No procedural steps associated with the message.

32
Q

Does the plane have stick shakers or pushers?

A

Shakers

33
Q

What would trigger a takeoff configuration warning and CONFIG warning message?

A

On ground with fuel control switches in run, engine 2 or 3 is in takeoff range, and airspeed is less than V1 and any of these occur:
-Flaps not in takeoff position
-Body gear not centered
-Parking brake set
-Speedbrake lever not in DN
-Stab trim not in takeoff range

34
Q

What causes a landing configuration warning to occur? CONFIG GEAR

A

Airplane is in flight, gear not down and locked, and any of the following:
-thrust lever closed below 800’
-OR flaps in landing position

35
Q

What causes a speedbrake extended warning (CONFIG SPOILERS)?

A

Speedbrake lever is extended past ARM and:
-climb thrust is set for 3 seconds on any 2 thrust levers

36
Q

When approaching a level off, when does the c-chord sound?

A

900’ to go

37
Q

When does EICAS ALTITUDE ALERT display?

A

If you stray off from your selected altitude by 300’ or more

38
Q

When are altitude alerts inhibited?

A

When glideslope captured or landing flaps selected with gear down.

39
Q

When would you get an RA?

A

When another aircraft will enter conflict airspace within 20-30 seconds

40
Q

When would you get a TA?

A

When another aircraft will enter conflict airspace within 25-45 seconds

41
Q

When do proximate TCAS aircraft show on the ND?

A

If they are within 6 miles and 1,200’ vertically. (white)
