Center Pedestal Familiarization Flashcards
Each side of the center Pedestal has a “STAB TRIM” band. How is the green band calculated?
FMC uses center of gravity, gross weight, and takeoff thrust setting to calculate an appropriate green band. (Also a sensor on the nose gear will tell you if it disagrees with that FMC calculated green band-suggesting incorrect data entered into the FMC)
How many spoiler panels total? How many are used in flight?
6 panels total, 4 are used in flight
On the spoiler lever, there is a mid point titled “FLIGHT DETENT”. Can you go past that in flight?
No
If you put the spoiler lever into the ARM position, when will it deploy?
Ground spoilers will deploy upon main landing gear touchdown PLUS engine 1 and 3 thrust levers are retarded
When would you get a takeoff configuration warning?
-On ground and fuel control switch: RUN +Engine 2 + 3 thrust take-off range + Less than V1 any of the following:
- Flaps not in take-off position
- Body gear not centered
- Parking brake set
- Speed lever not in DN detent
- Stabilizer trim not in take-off range
What happens when you push a TOGA switch on the ground?
MUST BE BELOW 50 KNOTS
If pressed, A/T mode goes to THR REF and sets thrust for takeoff as per the THRUST LIMIT page in the FMC
What happens when you push a TOGA switch inflight with takeoff reference thrust limit displayed?
-Removes takeoff and clime derates and assumed temperature thrust reduction
-If AT in HOLD, it activates AT into THR REF mode
-Between 50’ and 400’, it selects TOGA roll mode
-Above 400’, it selects TOGA roll and pitch modes
What happens when you push a TOGA switch on approach with flaps deployed or glideslope captured?
-Activates AT THR mode with GA reference thrust limit displayed
-Selects TOGA roll and pitch modes
-Pull up the flight directors if they were off
NOTE: A second push will activate the autothrottle into the THR REF mode using GA as the reference thrust (more balls)
What happens when you move a fuel control switch into the RUN position?
Auto start enabled: -Opens spar fuel valve and engine fuel valve
-EEC sequences start valve, fuel metering valve, and igniters
Auto start disabled: -Opens spar fuel valve and engine fuel valve
-Energizes igniters
What happens when you move a fuel control switch into the CUTOFF position?
1.) Closes the fuel valve
2.) Removes igniter power
3.) Hydraulic demand pump activates (because the engine pump will stop working)
4.) It unlocks the fire switch
The STAB TRIM CUTOUT switches both have 3 positions: ON, AUTO, and CUTOUT. What does each position do?
ON: Supplies hydraulic power for stabilizer trim
AUTO: Supplies hydraulic power for stabilizer trim (BUT it will shut off hydraulic power if unscheduled trim is detected.
CUTOUT: Shuts off hydraulic power for the stabilizer trim
On the center pedestal, there is ALTN pitch trim. What does this do?
Push both in the desired trim direction and it trims the stabilizer using an alternate control channel.
How many autobrake settings are there?
6 total, 5 used for landing. 1, 2, 3, 4, and MAX AUTO (landing) and RTO (takeoff)
What is the difference between DISARM and OFF on the autobrake switch?
DISARM is what it kicks over to once you apply manual braking.
OFF deactivates the autobrake system and releases brake pressure
When does RTO autobrake mode become active?
Above 85 knots.
