FMS CBT's Flashcards
Difference between FMS and FMC
The terms FMS and FMC are sometimes used interchangeably.
The term Flight Management System (FMS) refers to the entire system, including Flight Management Computers (FMCs), whereas the term FMC refers to a single computer or its function.
How many FMC’s?
2 (LEFT AND RIGHT)
There are 3 CDU’s. Normally the center CDU is for ACARS only. Can it be used for navigation?
Yes
How do you calculate your maximum rate climb speed?
MAX ANGLE + 25kts until intercepting Mach .84
What will selecting DES NOW do?
1,250 FPM descent after the aircraft has slowed to the descent speed. The VNAV will maintain that rate of descent until capturing the VNAV Path.
NOTE: If within 50 NM of the top of descent, you can use either DES NOW or push the altitude knob on the MCP. Both accomplish the same thing of 1,250 FPM
What is the difference between a “cruise descent” and an “early descent”?
Cruise descent: changes cruise altitude. Descends at cruise speed. - outside 50NM TOD
Early descent: Does not change cruise altitude, descends at descent speed. - inside 50NM TOD
How many navigation radios?
-2 VOR
-2 DME
-2 ADF
-3 ILS
Nav radios are normally auto tuned. You can manually tune them if you want. Which type of navigation radio is never auto tuned and must always be manually tuned?
ADF
Is there any VOR mode that can be directly selected to the auropilot?
No
