- Slows down gastric emptying to make people feel fuller when they eat
Contraindicated: patient or any member of family have ever had MTC (rare thyroid cancer) or if you have MEN 2.
What is GLP-1?
What are its Functions?
GLUCAGON LIKE PEPTIDE-1
GLP-1 is a hormone released from the intestines after eating:
- Increases insulin secretion in response to meals (to help regulate blood glucose levels).
- Reduces glucagon secretion (which lowers glucose production in the liver).
- Slows gastric emptying (the process by which food leaves the stomach), leading to feelings of fullness or satiety.
- Decreases appetite by acting on the brain, particularly in areas involved in hunger regulation, such as hypothalamus.
