Q

What is GLP-1?

What are its Functions?

GLUCAGON LIKE PEPTIDE-1

A

GLP-1 is a hormone released from the intestines after eating:

  1. Increases insulin secretion in response to meals (to help regulate blood glucose levels).
  2. Reduces glucagon secretion (which lowers glucose production in the liver).
  3. Slows gastric emptying (the process by which food leaves the stomach), leading to feelings of fullness or satiety.
  4. Decreases appetite by acting on the brain, particularly in areas involved in hunger regulation, such as hypothalamus.
