tocopherol because tocopheral acetate must be cleaved back to tocopheral in the lumen of the intestine for absorption

What does vitamin E deficiency present as?
reproductive failure, neurological dysfunction, immune suppression
What is the function of vitamin E?
chain-breaking antioxidant in cell membranes and regulates platelet aggregation by inhibiting platelet activity and decreasing prostaglandin production
What is steatosis?
yellow fat disease caused by deficiency of vitamin E
What species are affected by yellow fat disease?
cats, minks, ferrets, and occasionally foals and pigs
What are symptoms of steatosis?
marked inflammation going on int he adipose as well as deposition of ceroid
What causes steatosis?
overabundance of unsaturated fatty acids together with vitamin E deficiency and other antioxidants
What dietary food is commonly associated with steatosis?
fish or fish byproducts
