Veins anatomy Flashcards
what is the artery pathway from the heart to the foot
acending aorta, aortic arch, decending aorta, common iliac, external iliac artey, femoral, popliteal artery, posterior tibial, plantar arch
What are the acending veins of the foot to heart
planter venous, posterior tibial, popliteal, femoral, exteral iliac, common iliac, inferior vena cava
What are the properties of tunica media
- layer of mostly smooth muscle
- also has variable content of collagen and elasin
- in elastic veins higher elastin content, low in muscular arterys
- thickness dependant on blood pressure
- thickest layer in healthy arterys
what are properties of the tunica intima
- endothelium - simple squamous epithelia,
- sub endothelium - layer of loose FCT for protection
- internal elastic lamina - compact layer high in elastin, well developed in arterys not in veins
- thin layer
what are the three layers of blood vessle walls
tunica intima
tunica media
tunica adventitia
what are the properties of tunica advantitia
- loose FCT, high collagen + variable elastin
- contains vena vasorum blood vessles
- contains lyphatics and nerves
- thickest layer in veins
what is the function of elastic arterys
Located near the heart – high elastin in tunica media – distributes the force from heart contractions – creates even blood pressure during systole + diastole in capillary’s
what are the properties of veins
- low pressure 1 way system
- large CSA
- thinner walls than arteries
- flat irregular shape with large lumen
- capacitance vessles
what is the function arterioles
smallest arterys in the body - constriction harder blood circulation leading to increased blood pressure, dialation leads to easier blood flow and decreased blood pressure
what are venuoles
The smallest veins - 1st step of drainage system - venous valves ensure unidirectional flow
What is a capacitance vessle
One which can increase in fluid volume
What is the interaction between sketeal muscle and veins
SM compressions push blood in veins, which is pushed up, downwards movment is prevented by valves
What condition occurs when there is strech to the veins leading to damage to the valves + effect
vericose veins
creates hydrostatic pressure - leads to further streching to the veins
what is the longest vein in the leg
great saphenous vein
- foot -> top of thigh
- superfical
