Vecuronium Flashcards
Vecuronium (class)
nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent
Vecuronium (actions 2)
skeletal and respiratory muscle paralysis
prevents neuromuscular transmission by blocking ACH at neuromuscular junction
Vecuronium (indications 3)
RSI
skeletal muscle paralysis to fascilitate ET
RSI where succinycholing is contraindicated
Vecuronium (dosage/route 2)
0.1mg/kg IVP initial dose
may repeat prn
Vecuronium (side effects 3)
prolonged paralysis
bradycardia, hypotension, and arrhythmias
excessive salivation
Vecuronium (contraindications)
known hypersensitivity
Vecuronium (special information 10)
should not be administered unless persons skilled in ET are present
ET equipment must be available and working
O2 equipment, ventilatory management equipment, and emergency resuscitative equipment/drugs must be available
paralysis occurs within 2-3 minutes and lasts 30-45 minutes
reconstitute with bacteriostatic water
has no effect on conscious pain. adequate anesthesia should always be used concurrently
can be used to maintain paralysis after intubation
use in cautions with renal or hepatic impairment/failure, peds, and elderly
can cause vagal stimulation resulting in bradycardia, hypotension, and arrythmias
cannot be given IM
Vecuronium (pediatric note2)
dosage 0.1mg/kg
do not use in infants <7 weeks
