Aspirin (class)
analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory
platelet aggregate inhibitor
Aspirin (MOA)
blocks clotting mechanisms by inihibiting platelet aggreegation around damaged areas of blood vessels
promotes blood flow to ischemic heart tissues
Aspirin (Indications)
chest pain of suspected cardiac origin
Aspirin (contraindications)
known allergy to ASA ot ASA induced asthma, bleeding disorders/actively bleeding, suspected aortic dissection, chicken pox/flu symptoms in children
Aspirin (adverse reactions/side effects)
tinitis, gi bleeding, gi upset (dyspepsia, heartburn, epigastric pain, nausea/vomiting
Aspirin (Pediatric note)
not recomended in emergency setting
Aspirin (Dosage and administration)
324mg PO or 4 chewed baby aspirin
Aspirin (special information)
OLMC should be consulted for pt taking anticoagulants
use caution in patients with gastric ulcers or gi bleeding
decomposes at high temperatures or humidity. discard pills that crumble or have vinegar odor
cross sensitivity with other NSAIDS may exist
can be given if patient has already taken ASA that day
metabolized faster hen chewed
use with caution in last trimester of pregnancy
linked to reyes syndrome in children with concurrent viral infection
