epi 1:1000 (class)
natural catecholamine (both alpha and beta effects)
epi 1:1000 (actions 3; 1,1,4)
on bronchi (B2): bhronchodilation
on peripheral vasculature (alpha): vasoconstriction)
on the heart (B1):
increases HR, contractility, AV conduction, irritability
epi 1:1000 (indications 3)
respiratory distress - asthma only (if pt is in severe distress and unable to use neb)
allergic reaction - systemic, acute urticaria/angioedema
anaphylaxis - respiratory distress, threatened airway, hypotension
epi 1:1000 (dosage/route 4; 2,1,1,1)
respiratory distress - asthma only: 0.3mgSC
use with caution if over 40 years, heart disease or b/p >150s
allergic reaction - systemic: 0.3mg IM
anaphylaxis: 0.3mg IM
asystoly/pea/vf/pulseless vt for ET use: 2mg in 10CC NS, 1x via ET if no IV/IO line
epi 1:1000 (side effects 4)
SVT
ventricular irritability
tremors
anxiousness
epi 1:1000 (contraindications)
none in emergency setting
epi 1:1000 (special information 3)
assess pt and ECG for desired effect and side effects
caution in pt with underlying cardiac disease or HTN
caution over age 40, BP>150 systolic
