valve diseases Flashcards
rheumatic fever follows
strep throat
rheumatic fever causes
mitral valve regurgitation in acute phase and then stenosis with scarring
which valve can have prolapse
mitral
diagnostic criteria mitral valve prolapse. what imaging?
> 2mm ballooning of 1 or more leaflet. Echo
what auscultative presentation mitral valve prolapse
mid systolic click late systolic murmur
treatment for mitral valve regurg
open heart surgery or MitraClip (percutaneous)
sysmptoms mitral valve regurg
dyspnoea, orthopnoea
risk of mitral valve regurg
LA remodelling
risk of LA remodelling
A fib
mitral valve prob ECG
bifid broad p wave
who can’t havea mitral balloon catheter insertion
calcified valves
mitral valve stenosis signs
pulmonary HTN
malar flush
mitral valve stenosis sound
loud opening snap and rumbling diastolic murmur
signs of Aortic valve stenosis (5)
Slow rising carotid pulse (pulsus parvus et tardus),
heaving nondisplaced apex beat,
LV heave, and aortic thrill
-S4 ± ejection click (especially bicuspid valve)
-Ejection systolic murmur (crescendo-decrescendo) heard at base, left sternal edge radiating to carotid arteries
symptoms of Aortic valve stenosis
-Angina: O2 demand of hypertrophied LV
-Syncope: either paroxysmal ventricular arrhythmias or exertional cerebral hypoperfusion
