3
Q

what causes vasodilation

A

Activation of nitric oxide and prostacyclin via cGMP and cAMP respectively. Secondary messengers cause a decrease in calcium and smooth muscle relaxation

4
Q

what causes vasoconstriction

A

Predominantly controlled through the sympathetic nervous system
Noradrenaline acts on α1 and 2 receptors to cause vasoconstriction of vessels and SMC contraction
Angiotensin and vasopressin have vasoconstrictive effects

A

level of consciousness

17

neurogenic shock cause and pathophysiology

A

spinal injury above T6
unopposed parasympathetic
bradycardia
hypotension
dysregulated thermoreg

18
Q

what is cardiogenic shock caused by

A

basically failure of heart to pump blood

19
Q

cause of cardiogenic shock

A

acute MI most common cause

20
Q

what is melena

A

dark tarry stool

21
Q

causes of hypovolemic shock

A

burns
cholera
haemorrhage

22
Q

femur fracture danger

A

can have massive haematoma -> hypovolemic shock

A

hypovolemia
