Uveal Tract (Uveitis I) Flashcards
Classification of uveitis
(Anatomically)
- Anterior
- Intermediate
- Posterior
- Panuvitis
- Endophthalmitis
- Panophthalmitis
Classification of uveitis
(Clinically)
- Acute
- Chronic
- Recurrent
Classification of uveitis
(Pathologically)
- Non-granulomatous
- Granulomatous
Etiology of uveitis [7 points]
- Infective
- Allergic
- Toxic
- Traumatic
- Uveitis associated with systemic disease
- Idiopathic
- HLA
Infective uveitis
- Bacterial
- granulomatous (TB)
- non (strepto) - Viral (HSV, HZV, CMV)
- Fungal (candida&aspergillus)
- Parasitic (toxoplasma&toxocariasis)
Symptoms and signs of uveitis [7]
- Dull aching pain
- Redness
- Lacrimation
- Photophobia
- Blepharospasm
- Floaters
- Defective vision
Causes of defective vision in uveitis
- Corneal haze (oedema & KPs)
- vitreous haze
- Turbid aqueous
- Complicated cataract
- Macular oedema
- 2ry glaucoma
Signs of uveitis
- Lid oedema
- Circumcorneal congestion
- Corneal oedema
- Keratic precipitates KPs
- Aqueous cells and Aqueous flares.
- Hypopyon
- Iris nodules
- Posterior synechia
- Occlusio pupillae
What is KPs?
Proteinaceous deposits in endothelium
Types of KPs
- Mutton fat KPs
- Granular KPs
- Old KPs
Different between mutton fat and granular KPs
- Granular KPs with non Granular uveitis.
- Mutton fat is larger and waxy (granular is small and dusty)
- mutton fat =Epithelioid cells & macrophages
- granular = lymphocytes
Two types of iris nodules
Koepp’s nodules (pupillary margin)
Busacca’s nodules (near the collateral)
What is the different between seclusio pupillae and Occlusio pupillae
seclusio pupillae
360° posterior synechia
Occlusio pupillae
organized exudates occluding pupillary area
Complications of uveitis
- Cataract.
- Glaucoma.
- Cystoid macular oedema
- Band keratopathy.
- Tractional retinal detachment.
Investigations for uveitis
- USG.
- angiography.
- Optical topography.
- Genral ( blood, skin, chest)
Treatment for uveitis
- Mydriatic-cycloplegic.
- Steroid/NSAIDs
- Anti-glucoma.
- Antibiotic.
- Immunosuppressive.
Complications of corticosteroid (on the eye)
- Ptosis
- Glaucoma
- Cataract
- Decrease healing
- Super infection
Surgeries in case of uveitis
- Laser iridotomy
- Surgical iridectomy
- For cataract and glaucoma
