Eye Tumors Flashcards
Classification of Eye tumors
extra-ocular
- eyelid
- lacrimal
- conjunctival
- orbit
intra-ocular
- benign (navus)
- malignant (melanoma + retinoblastoma)
Classification of orbital tumors
- Optic (menangioma, glioma)
- Lacrimal
- Vascular
- Rabdomyosarcoma
- Lymphoma
- Vascular
- Neurofibroma
- Metastatic
(Just try to remember parts of the eye)
Types of tumors in eye lids, and which common
- Basal cell carcinoma(most)
- Squamous cell carcinoma
Types of tumor in optic nerve and which is common in children or adults
- Optic nerve glioma (children)
- Optic nerve meningioma (adult)
Classification of intra-occular tumors
benign
- iris naevus
- choroidal naevus
malignant
- malignant melanoma of:
— iris
— ciliary body
— choroid
- retinoblastma
About malignant intra-ocular tumors, which is common in adult and which in children
- Malignant melanoma of choroid (adult)
- Retinoblastoma (children)
Retinoblastmoa arise from which cell:
Primitive Photoreceptor cells
Is the retinoblastoma uni or bi?
Both
All bilateral is hereditary
All non-hereditary is unilateral
15% of herditary is uni and 85% bilateral
Signs of both RB and choroidal melanoma
- Can be asymptomatic
- 2ry glucoma
- Uveitis
- Retinal detachment
Signs for choroidal melanoma
VISION
1. visual field loss
2. Central visual loss
_hint donut 🍩 shaped vision 😋 😂
3. Uveitis
4.Exudative Retinal detachment
5. 2ry glucoma
6. Can be asymptomatic
_hint 3-6 same as retinoblastoma
Signs of retinoblastoma
- Leukocoria
- Hyphaema
- Strabismus
- 2ry glucoma
- Anterior Uveitis
- Can be asymptomatic

أحول مضغوط ملتهب
Management of eye tumors (melanoma of choroid and retinoblastoma)
- Screening for metastases
- Local resection, exenteration, enucleation
- Laser and irradiation
- Cryotherapy
- Palliative
Signs of poor prognosis
- Metastasis
- Invasion + diffuse
- Large + necrosis
- Complication
- Old age (in malignant melanoma)
- No rosette (in retinoblastoma)
Differential diagnosis of choroidal melanoma
- Benign naevus
- Metasta
- Retinal detachment
- 3choroidal
- hemangioma
- detachment
- hemorrhage
Differential diagnosis of retinoblastoma
- TC & TP toxocariasis and toxoplasmosis
- CC & CD congenital cataract & coats disease
- Retinopathy of Prematuritry
- Persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous
