About 3/4 of pt have atopy, and 2/3 have a close family history of atopy
Symptoms of vernal keratoconjunctivitis
Itching
Lacrimation
Photophobia
Foreign body sensation
Discharge
when you invert the eyelid, what do you see?
Papillary hypertrophy in upper palpebral conjunctiva.
Then they become larger and have flat toped polygonal appearance (Cobble-stone)
What are the other signs that you can see in vernal keratoconjunctivitis?
Tranta’s dots
Micropannus, Superfacial punctate keratitis
What are Tranta’s dots?
They are whitish dots seen at the limbus, composed of eosinophils
Treatment of vernal keratoconjunctivitis:
Mast cell stabilizer (sodium cromoglycate)
Antihistamine
Topical steroid (severe and not for a long time)
Cold compresses to relief symptoms
What is giant papillary conjunctivitis?
It is a type of allergic conjunctivitis characterized by the formation of large papillae on the upper tarsal conjunctiva.
It is often associated with the use of contact lenses or artificial eyes
