More About Clincal Refraction Flashcards
What is anisometropia
Difference in refractive power between the two eyes (more than 4D)
Etiology of anisometropia
Congenital
Acquired (unilateral aphakia)
Symptom of anisometropia
Double vision ✌️
How to treat anisometropia
Contact lens & IOL
Anisometropia can not be corrected with glasses.
Why?
Because lead to aniseikonia ( different size of picture between the two eyes)
What is presbyopia
It is a loss of accommodation that comes with aging (physiological)
Causes of presbyopia
May be dt lens sclerosis and ** decrease of elasticity of capsule**
Causes of premature presbyopia (pathological)
Anemia
POAG
Cycloplegic
A preson with emmetropic eyes will begin to notice inability to read small print or discriminate close object at about age:
44-46
Late in myopia (after 46)
Early in hypermetropia (before 44)
Clinical features of presbyopia
Difficulty in near work
Patient holds a book at greater distance
Presbyopia is corrected by:
Plus (conex) lens
Like what?
Refractive surgery of choice for myopia up to 12D
Laser in-situ keratomileusis (Lasik)
Surgery for myopia of -16 to -18 D
Extraction of clear crystalline lens
