Non-Rhegmatogenous RD Flashcards
Cause of tractional RD
Fibrovasculat membrane (cyclitic membrane) pulling the sensory retina away from RPE
Other causes of TRD
Proliferative diabetic retinopathy(most common cause)
Cyclitic membrane (post uveitis)
Vitreous hge
Retinopathy of Prematuritry
Proliferative sickle cell Retinopathy
Penetrating posterior segment trauma
Vitreous fibrosis
The main difference between Rhegmatogenous and tractional RD
In TRD
No tears
There is fibrosis
If both exist : it is called combined RD
Causes of Exudative RD
Choroidal tumors such as melanoma, hemangioma, and metastasis
Choroiditis (posterior scleritis, Harada syndrome)
Subretinal (choroidal ) Neovascularization
Systemic causes; severe HTN, eclampsia
Differences of Serous RD compared to the previous types
More convex, smooth elevation
No tear
Shifting fluid (very mobile): Visual defects change with gravity
Usually, there is no photopsia: no vitreal traction or mechanical irritation
No fibrovascular memebrane or fibrosis (like in TRD)
The most common 1ry ocular tumor in old age is one of the causes of Exudative RD
Choroidal melanoma
