Federal state

A

the organization of a state in which power is shared between the federal government and its internal regional units. This results in there being more diversity in positions of power, and help reaching sooner in national emergencies
Examples: Australia, United states, and Canada

Unitary State

A

an organization of a state in which power is concentrated in a central government. Less diversity; however, decisions and laws are passed WAY quicker.
Example: China and France
Just because a country is unitary doesn’t mean communism and hierarchy

reapportionment

A

the redistribution of representative seats among states based on shifts in population. Every 10 years after the census they rearrange the seats of the house to give fair representation to each state.

a set of people, called electors, who are chosen to elect the president and vice president of the United States

Redistricting

A

The redrawing of internal territorial and political boundaries
This occurs after a a census (every ten years) and reapportionment ( see flash card). even tough redistricting was originally made to make even and fair representation between districts the lines between the two have become blurry.

Gerrymandering

A

the dividing of legislative boundaries to give one political party an advantage in elections. People in power have access to magazine subscriptions, gun cards, and a bunch of other information that can give them an inference as to which way the people in a district will vote.
Examples:
Types: Packing - the opposing party only wins in one minor area. Cracking - the opposing party is spread throughout territories so they don’t win majority in either.
NOTE- they DONT know for certain how they will vote.
