Gendered Spaces
A space designed for a specific gender (can typically also be safe spaces)
Examples: Pink bus in Japan for only women
Gendered Identity
Being female, male, a combination of the two, or neither
Safe spaces
A place of acceptance for people who feel confined by society
Gentrification
Improvements/renovations conforming middle-class preferences
Third place
A communal place besides home and work/school where one feels comfortable (home away from home)
Examples: My third place is the bowling alley or the bookstore
Sense of place
Subjective (opposite of objective) feelings and memories associated with a place (my sense of place can be different than another person about the same place)
Placemaking
A corroborated process to create somewhere to live, work, play, and/or learn
Dialects
Variations of standard languages specific to an area with differences in pronunciation and spelling etc.
Examples: Syrup (Sear-up or Sir-up)
Adherents
Someone loyal to a belief, religion, or organization
Examples: Christians are adherents to the word of christ
Denominations
A separate church organization that unites a # of local congregations, assemblies of people.
Sect
Small group separate from an established denomination
Centripetal force
A force that unites
Centrifugal force
A force that divides a group of people
