Unit 2.1a Flashcards
What is a hazard?
Source of potential harm
What is a risk?
Likelihood that a hazard will cause harm
What is a risk assessment?
Detection of areas of harm and the risk of this happening and then taking appropriate measures to reduce these risks
What is terrain and how is it a hazard?
Type of groundwork where fieldwork is conducted, can be slopping, uneven etc. so appropriate footwear and kit must be worn.
What are weather conditions and how are they hazards?
The weather an area may be facing during fieldwork/sampling and can be extreme or impact terrain so caution must be taken and appropriate clothing must be worn.
What is isolation and how is it a hazard?
When in a rural area (not urban) it can be hard to contact others so how isolated a sampling location is must be assed first and then a plan must be made of how contact can be made.
What are the 3 hazards associated with fieldwork?
Terrain, weather conditions, isolation
What are the 5 musts that you must follow during a risk assessment?
- Identify hazards
- Evaluate risks
- Evaluate severity
- Identify reducing control measures
- Record steps taken
