  • They have a nucleic acid core (DNA) surrounded by a protein coat
  • Inside the capsid is DNA and/or RNA
  • Sometime capsid is surrounded by an envelope with proteins

How do viruses reproduce?

A
  • The virus enters the cell
  • Virus injects it’s DNA into the cell
  • The genetic material takes control of the host cells and uses it to reproduce
  • Host cell breaks open and releases newly formed viruses
