Define classification
The grouping of objects or information based on similarities
Define taxonomy
Branch of biology that groups and names organisms based on the study of their different characteristics
How do scientists group organisms?
- Structural similarities (homologous structures)
- Breeding behavior (can they reproduce together)
- Geographic distribution (where they live)
- Number of chromosomes
- Bio chemistry (DNA and amino acid sequences)
How do we classify organisms?
Form broad characteristics to specific characteristics
What are the 3 domains?
Bacteria, Archea, Eukaryota
What are the 6 kingdoms?
Eubacteria, Achaebacteria, Protistis, Fungi, Plants, Animals
