- animal can be standing or in R lateral recumbency
- curvilinear transducer
- apply transducer cranial to pubic brim (sagittal or transverse)
- direct beam dorsally
- find bladder and colon
- uterus between bladder and colon
- non-pregnant uterus hard to find
