Types of LTM Flashcards
Read thru the sheet on Clive Wearing on showbie
saves me from summarising 2 pages of info i cba <3
now do the same for henry molaison
thx much appreciated
What is clinical evidence of how episodic, semantic and procedural memory is affected by amnesia
Episodic - severely impaired, had great difficulty recalling events that had happened in the past
Semantic - unaffected, understood meaning of words
Procedural - also intact; could walk, tie shoelaces, etc
Supports Tulving’s view that there are different memory stores in the LTM
What is a negative evaluation of the clinical evidence
Case studies are very unique to the individual
Therefore can be difficult to make generalisations regarding info gathered
What are some neuroimaging evidence for LTM
Brain scans have been conducted whilst performing memory tasks
Tulving 1994
What did Tulving 1994 find about where certain memories are recalled from
Episodic and semantic - prefrontal cortex
This area is divided into 2, one memory type on each hemisphere of the brain
What are the 2 divisions of the prefrontal cortex that holds semantic or episodic memories
Left prefrontal cortex = semantic memories
Right prefrontal cortex = episodic memories
This supports the idea in different physical locality of different parts of memory
What are some real life applications of helping to increase LTM
Specific treatments developed to help with episodic memory impairment
Especially as people get older through mild cognitive impairment
Supported by Belleville et al. 2006
What is a -ve evaluation in types of LTM
Cohen and Squire 1980
believe there are only 2 types of LTM
-Procedural (non-declarative)
-Declarative (combo of episodic and semantic)
gosh can these ppl just AGREE ON SOME THINGS
