Turbine Cooling Water Flashcards
What are the loads on TC?
1) Feedwater pump turb. L.O. cooler
2) Air compressor jacket coolers & aftercoolers
3) Condensate pump motor Oil cooler
4) Circ pump motor oil cooler
5) EHC fluid coolers
6) Turbine L.O. coolers
7) Heater Drain pump L.O. Coolers
8) Isophase bus
9) Non nuclear sample coolers
10) Gland Steam packing exhauster
11) Generator hydrogen coolers
12) Generator stator coolers
What is the normal temperature and pressure of the TC system?
80-100F and 105 psig
Where does makeup to the TC surge tank come from?
DW
Where do the TC pumps take a suction from?
Downstream of the TC heat exchangers
What happens on a loss of TC?
The unit cannot operate and must be shut down
At what pressure does the standby pump start?
55 psig on the discharge of the running pump
What is the power supply to the TC pumps?
NBN-S01 & S02
What cools TC in the TC heat exchangers?
PW on the tube side
What does the surge tank do?
accommodate changes in volume due to temperature changes; provide NPSH for the TC pumps; means of leak detection
How is corrosion minimized in the TC surge tank?
The surge tank has a N2 blanket
How is makeup to the TC system controlled?
automatically by LV-35 in response to surge tank level signals. the valve can be bypassed
How is flow through the chem add vessel achieved?
by diverting a portion of the TC pump discharge flow to the chem add tank and allowing D/P across the pump to move the chemicals.
How is temperature controlled on the TC HX?
The TC HX bypass valve may be opened to bypass it or if it is open all the way, the outlet valve may be throttled. PW outlet valve is left at 33% open.
Which valves are left open during normal operation and why?
the Hydrogen cooler vent valves are left open because they are the system high point and will allow any air to be vented out of the system.
