Oily Waste & Non Radioactive Waste System Flashcards
State the purpose of the OW system.
collect and transport liquid waste from equipment, floor drains of the turbine building, the control building, the diesel generator building, the fire pump house, and the yard area.
How are the sump pumps run?
Two pumps with an alternator to equalize run time.
They are started by the two float level control switches in the sump or locally with a hand switch.
What supplies the water for the bearing lubrication on the control building sump pumps? for Diesel Generator Building sump pumps?
DW - control building
DS - diesel generator building
What makes up the turbine building OW system?
floor drains, equipment drains, drain risers, drain pipes, one turbine building sump, one north condenser area sump and one south condenser area sump
Where does the discharge from the sumps in the turbine building go?
normally to the oily water separator.
Drains can also be directed to the LRS or the CWNT if radioactivity or chemicals are present
Where does the water from the battery room get directed to?
an acid neutralizing sump that has lumped limestone in it. those then drain to the north condenser area sump (non class battery room) and the the west and east control building sumps (class A train and B train sumps)
What is the normal position of the valve that allows MTLO room floor drains to drain to the turbine building sump?
Locked closed in order to contain the oil in case of a rupture of the tank. There is an alternate drain valve for normal use.
Where do the drains from the CST pump house go?
North condenser area sump.
What drains go to the control building sumps?
Class battery room neutralization sumps, drains from the A side and the B side of the control building, drains from the aux building via the EW HX tube side drains,
What drains go to the yard OW system?
Demin water storage tank and pumps
aux boiler and generator area
turbine building normal AHUs
Where does the yard area OW system discharge to?
circ water canal since there should be no oil or radioactivity
How does the oily water separator work?
It works in gravity flow mode where a bypass gate valve remains open allowing oily water to collect in the separator.
Oil is transferred and held in the storage compartment where it is later pumped out for disposal.
Effluent cleaner water is pumped automatically to a retention tank.
What items on the OWS local panel are still operating?
the two high level switches for high oil level and high water level alarms for the control room. A system malfunction light and the system reset pushbutton are still operable.
How are the 2 retention tanks operated?
in batch type operation where one receives waste until filled and then flow is diverted to the other tank. The water in the first tank is treated and then discharged to the evap pond.
How many pumps does each retention tank have?
2 pumps that are manually started and stopped.
