Why is biomass lost between levels

A

Organisms don’t eat every single part of the organism they are consuming e.g. bone
Organisms don’t absorb all the stuff in the food they ingest the stuff they don’t absorb is digested as faeces
Some of us is converted into other substances that are lost as waste
Glucose is used in respiration and produces lots of ways carbon dioxide and water urea is another waste product
