Topic 43 - Capillaries Flashcards
Capillaries:
General facts:
- Are ”exchange vessels”.
- Form network of small diameter thin-walled blood vessels.
- Density depends on organ, or tissue.
Endothelial layer
density depends on organ or tissue, single cell diameter is possible, function as exchange vessels.
Caveoles:
connect capillary lumen to surrounding tissue.
Pericytes
attach to outer wall of capillary.
Types of capillaries
Continuous
Fenestrated
Sinuses
Continous
-endothelium is completely closed. Lamina basalis is continuous. Found in skeletal muscle, lung, connective tissue brain, retina, ect.
Fenestrated
-flattened endothelial cells with pores. Found in intestines, kidney, endocrine organs.
Sinuses
large diameter and thin walled. Endothelium is continuous or fenestrated (heptatic sinusoids). Spleen cells enter blood due to sinuses between endothelial cells
