Topic 29 - Osteogenesis: Desmal ossification Flashcards
1
Q
What is demsmal ossification and what does it form?
A
- Bones form directly from layer of embryonic mesenchyme to bones.
- Intramembranous.
- Forms calvarium bones.
2
Q
Process:?
A
- Capillaries invade site.
- Mesenchymal cells become spherical, forming osteoprogenitor cells.
- Osteoprogenitor cells form osteoblasts (bone-forming cells).
- Osteoblasts synthesize and secrete osteoid, causing mineralization.
- Osteoblasts surrounded by osteoid transform into osteocytes.
3
Q
Formations:?
A
- Ossification center.
- Bony spiracles and trabeculae.
- Immature bone (trabecular, spongy, or cancellous).
- Eventually replaced by mature lamellar bone.
