Topic 39 - Nervous tissue : Synapses Flashcards
1
Q
Where does synapses exist?
A
between neurons, where on neuron influences another.
2
Q
What types are there?
A
- Electrical: gap junctions (paired hydrophilic pore channels) between membranes of adjacent neurons.
- Chemical: change in membrane potential of post-synaptic neuron by release of neurotransmitters from the pre-synaptic neuron.
3
Q
Types - based on depolarization
A
- Isotropic – linked to ion channels for depolarization.
- Metabotropic – linked to metabolism for depolarization.
4
Q
Types – based on post-synaptic site
A
- Axodendritic
- Axospinous
- Axosomatic
5
Q
Types – based on function
A
- Excitatory: asymmetrical membrane thickness. Rounded vesciles.
- Inhibitory: symmetric
6
Q
Neurotransmitters:
A
- Acetylcholine.
- Amino acids – glutamate, aspartate.
- Amino acid derivatives – serotonin, dopamine.
- Peptides – opiods (endorphins), gastrins, neurohypophyseal (vasopressin).
- Purins – adenosine.
