Thigh region Flashcards
What does the fascia lata/iliotibial tract do in the leg
-it is fascia around the thigh that keeps fluid in place to prevent edema from the affects of gravity on the legs
-iliotibial tract (IT band) is a thickening of the fascia late and the great saphenous even passes through an opening in this
Posterior compartment of the thigh
-muscles
- nerve supply
-Muscles
1. Hamstrings
-Nerve supply:
1. divisions of the sciatic nerve
What muscles make up the hamstrings
- Semimembranosus (medial)
- Semitendinosus
- Biceps femoris
-short head
-long head
Pes anserinus
-conjoined tendons of three muscles:
1. sartorius
2. Gracilis
3. SemTendinosus
Lumbosacral plexus anterior divsion nerves and nerve roots
- pedundal nerve S2-S4
- Posterior Femoral Cutaneous (S1-S3)
- nerve to superior gemellus and obturator internus (L5-S2)
- nerve to inferior gemellus and quadratus femoris L4-S1
- tibial nerve L4-S3
Lumbosacral plexus posterior divison nerves and nerve roots
- perforatin cutaneous nerve (S2-S3)
- Nerve to piriformis muscle S1-S2
- Superior gluteal nerve L4-S1
- inferior gluteal nerve L5-S2
- common fibular (peroneal) nerve L4-S2
Dermatomes of the LE
L1: Anterior hip
L2: superior anterior lateral thigh and superior to glutes
L3: inferior anterior medial thigh
L4: medial leg-big toe
L5: lateral leg and toes 2-4
S1: lateral malleoli and 5th toe
S2: posterior superior leg to thigh
S3: middle gluteal reiogn
S4: inner gluteal region
cutaneous innervation of the LE
1. femoral nerve
2. superior and inferior gluteal nerves
3. obturator
4. sciatic
5. common fibular (superior branch and inferior branch)
- femoral nerve: anterior compartment of thigh
- superior and inferior gluteal nerves posterior superior LE (around glutes)
- obturator: medial compartment of thigh
- sciatic nerve: posterior compartment of thigh, leg, and sloe of foot
- common fibular nerve: near head of fibular
- superficial branch: (common fibular nerve) : lateral compartment of leg
- deep branch anterior compartment of leg
