Hand Flashcards
what are the carpal bones starting from the proximal row on the radial side?
Scaphoid
lunate
triquetrum
pisiform
what are the carpal bones in the distal row starting from the radial side?
trapezium
trapezoid
capitate
hamate
which carpal bone is a sesmoid
pisiform
carpal tunnel
area in the wrist made of curved bone and enclosed by thick CT that can become compressed
what are the contents and borders of the carpal tunnel
carpal bones and flexor retinaculum (thick CT)
FDS tendons FDP tendons
Median nerve
Flexor pollicis longus tendon
Palmar aponeurosis
attaches to skin to keep skin in place when muscles in the palm move
palmaris brevis attaches to this on the medial side
Long finger tendons
-tendons of FDS and FDP
-fibrous sheaths on palmar aspects of digits (flexor tendons sheaths containing tendons for FSD and FDP)
-the prevent bowing when the fingers flex and are lined with synovial sheaths to produce synovial fluid
Extensor hoods
dorsal digital expansion
tendons of
-extensor digitorum
-extensor pollicis longus
other tendons:
-extensor digiti minimi
-extensor indicis
-extensor pollicis brevis
Extensor hoods anatomy
-parts
-triangular in shape
-apex: attaches to distal phalanx
-central region: attaches to middle phalanx (fingers) and proximal phalanx (thumb)
-base: wraps around sides of MCP joint
Interossei description
-between metacarpals 1-5
-web space (largest space between 1st and 2nd metacarpals
-two groups dorsal and palmar
Dorsal interossei and radial artery interaction
-muslces are bipinnate
radial artery passes dorsal in hand between 2 heads of 1st dorsal interossei
what does the radial artery pass through in the hand
2 heads of adductor pollicis
and
2 heads of 1st dorsal interossei
Arteries of the hand
-radial (lateral side - thumb and lateral index finger)
-ulnar (medial index finger and fingers 3,4,5)
Ulnar artery in the hand
-enters hand on medial side of wrist (lateral to ulnar nerve and pisiform bone)
-forms superficial palmar arch/anastamoses with deep palmar arch
radial artery in the hand
-radial artery passes through the anatomical snuff box
-passes between 2 heads of first dorsal interosseous muscle and 2 heads of adductor pollicis
-enters deep plane of palm and forms deep palmar arch
