Deep back Flashcards
What ligaments are found in the vertebral column
-anterior longitudinal
-posterior longitudinal
-ligamenta flava
-nuchal ligament/ligamentum nuchae
-suprapinous ligament
-interspinous ligaments
-
- Anterior longitudinal
and - posterior longitudinal
- anterior surfaces of vertebral bodies
- posterior surfaces of vertebral bodies
-lines anterior surfaces of vertebral canal
ligamenta flava
-one on each side
-pass between the laminae of the adjacent vertebrae
-form part of posterior surface of vertebral canal
nuchal ligament
associated with spinous processes of the cervical vertebrae and occiput
supraspinous ligament
associated with the tips of the thoracic and lumbar spinous processes
Interspinous ligaments
-run between the spinous processes and connects the bodies of each spinous process
What are the intermediate back muscles
-serratus posterior superior
-serratus posterior inferior
what are the deep back muscles
three groups:
1. spinotransversales muscles
2. erector spinae muscles and transversospinales muscles
3. interspinales and intertransversarii muscles
spinotransversales muscles
extend and rotates the head and neck
-splenius capitis
-splenius cervicis
erector spinae muscles and transversospinales muscles
extend and rotate the vertebral column
erector spinae
-iliocostalis (lateral)
-longissimus (middle)
-spinalis (medial)
Transversospinales
-semispinalis
-multifidus
-rotatores
segmental and intertransversarii muscles
short segmental muscles
interspinales
-levatores costarum
-interspinales
intertransversarii
Thoracolumbar fascia
Anterior - TP; runs laterally and attaches to the abs
middle - attaches to TP and abs
Posterior - attaches to SP and covers erector spinae on the posterior side
What muscles are in the superfical layer or layer 1 of the back
-trapezius
-latissimus dorsi
What muscles are in layer 2 of the back
-Rhomboids
What muscles are in layer 3 of the back
Serratus posterior superior and inferior
