distinguish between internal and external recruitment?
internal is hiring from within the business and external is hiring from outside the business
what are the advantages of internal recruitment?
- good for morale when someone within the organisation is promoted
- organisation already knows the employee and the employee already knows how things are done within that organisation
- frees up another vacancy for a different employee to be promoted into
- cheaper because expensive advertising methods aren’t needed
what are the disadvantages of external recruitment?
- usually takes a longer time to recruit using this method
- usually costs more
- can be riskier because managers don’t know the candidates as well
what are the advantages of external recruitment?
- usually means that there is a larger pool of candidates to choose from
- can help to stop resentment amongst the existing team
- brings new ideas into a business
what are the disadvantages of internal recruitment?
- Existing staff may not add new ideas to help the business to improve
- There may not be many people willing and able to apply, choice is limited
- job of the person appointed to the post will need to be filled so further recruitment is needed
- If an employee is promoted within the business, other workers may be jealous and it can cause resentment

- cheaper than national newspaper
- reach people where job is located

- less exposure as people might not read their local newspaper

- reach whole country, can get a range of applicants
what are the disadvantages of advertising in a national newspaper?
- more expensive than advertising in local paper
- applicants may apply without looking where the job is located
