17
Q

What occurs on days 1-5 on the menstrual cycle

A

Menstruation occurs ie. A period occurs

18
Q

What happens day 6-13 of the menstrual cycle

A

A new lining develops

Egg continues o develop in the ovary

19
Q

What happens day 14 of the menstrual cycle

A

Egg is released from ovary this is called ovulation

20
Q

What happens on day 15-28 on the menstrual cycle

A

Uterus becomes thicker and rich in blood vessels.

If egg is not needed the lining of the womb is shed and that brings us to start a new cycle

21
Q

Explain fertile period

A

The days in the menstrual cycle when a female is most likely to become pregnant days 11-16

22
Q

Explain the path of the sperm

A

The man places his erect penis into the vagina
Ejaculation occurs releasing semen and sperm.
The sperm swims from the vagina, uterus, Fallopian tube

23
Q

Explain fertilisation

A

If an egg is present in Fallopian tube the egg joins the soerm cell. Fertilisation is the joining of the male sex cell and the female sex cell

24
Q

Explain how the cells get from fertilisation to pregnant

A

The fertilised egg divides and the group of cells move down to the uterus
The group of cells bury themselves into the lining of the womb and this is called implantation
Once implantation takes place the woman is pregnant

25
Q

What is the fertilised egg called

A

Zygote

26
Q

Explain amnion and amniotic fluid

A

Amnion is the membrane which surrounds the baby during pregnancy and the membrane fills up with amiotic fluid which acts as a shock absorber

27
Q

What is he function of the placenta

A

Passes oxygen and food from mothers blood to foetus
Passes waste products ( urea, salt, CO2) from baby to mother
Also passes harmful substances like alcohol to baby from mother

28
Q

Explain umbilical chord

A

Connects placenta to the baby at the belly button

29
Q

Explain how a baby is born

A

Muscles in the uterus contract. These contractions are called labour

Contractions cause amnion to burst “breaking of the waters”

Cervix widens during contractions, baby is pushed head first out of the uterus into the vagina.

The umbilical chord is clamped and cut

30
Q

Explain afterbirth

A

Uterus contracts after baby is born

Placenta and remains of unmilitary chords are pushed out of the vagina.

31
Q

Explain reproduction

A

Production of new individuals, humans produce sexually

32
Q

Explain gametes

A

Sex cells

33
Q

Explain contraception

A

Prevention of fertilisation or pregnancy

34
Q

Give examples of methods of contraception to prevent fertilisation

A

Contraceptive pill
Condom
Chemical creams, kill sperm
Medical operations

35
Q

Give examples of contraception that prevent implantation

A

Pills prevent pregnancy and stop embryo at aching to uterus

Plastic coil inserted into uterus.
