The Atmosphere Flashcards
1
Q
What is the air made up of
A
Oxygen Nitrogen Argon Carbondioxide Water vapour Other gases
2
Q
Give the percentage of the air that the airs gases make up
A
Oxygen-21% Nitrogen-78% Argon,carbon dioxide, water vapour, other gases- 1%
3
Q
Explain the atmosphere
A
The atmosphere is the layer of gases around the Earth.
4
Q
Explain briefly the method of the experiment To show that approximately one-fifth of air is oxygen (O2)
A
- Put steel wool into the bottom of a graduated cylinder 2. Invert the cylinder in a basin of water. 3. Leave for one week. 4. Measure the height that the water rises up the cylinder.
5
Q
Explain the results of the experiment To show that approximately one-fifth of air is oxygen (O2)
A
- The steel wool rusts, and uses up the oxygen in the graduated cylinder. - Water is drawn up to replace the oxygen - The height the water rises is approximately one-fifth of the overall height of the cylinder above the water.
