سورة المدثر : The One Wrapped up in Garments

Question 1

يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ ‎﴿١﴾

Answer 1

Oh you enveloped in a mantle.

Question 2

قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ ‎﴿٢﴾

Answer 2

Stand up and warn.

Question 3

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ ‎﴿٣﴾

Answer 3

And pronounce the greatness of your Lord.

Question 4

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ ‎﴿٤﴾‏

Answer 4

And purify your clothes.

Question 5

وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ ‎﴿٥﴾

Answer 5

And keep away from filth.

Question 6

وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ ‎﴿٦﴾

Answer 6

And do not do a favour (to anyone merely) to seek more in return.

Question 7

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْ ‎﴿٧﴾

Answer 7

And for the sake of your Lord observe patience.

Question 8

فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ ‎﴿٨﴾

Answer 8

For when the trumpet will be blown.

Question 9

فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ ‎﴿٩﴾‏

Answer 9

That Day will be a difficult day.

Question 10

عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ ‎﴿١٠﴾

Answer 10

Not easy for the disbelievers.

Question 11

ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا ‎﴿١١﴾‏

Answer 11

Leave Me alone (to deal) with the one whom I created lonely.

Question 12

وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ مَالًا مَّمْدُودًا ‎﴿١٢﴾

Answer 12

And gave him extensive wealth.

Question 13

وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا ‎﴿١٣﴾

Answer 13

And sons present before his eyes.

Question 14

وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُ تَمْهِيدًا ‎﴿١٤﴾

Answer 14

And extended (power and honour) to him pretty well.

Question 15

ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ ‎﴿١٥﴾

Answer 15

Still, he aspires that I should give him mor.e

Question 16

كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِآيَاتِنَا عَنِيدًا ‎﴿١٦﴾‏

Answer 16

Never, he is inimicle towards Our verses.

Question 17

سَأُرْهِقُهُ صَعُودًا ‎﴿١٧﴾‏

Answer 17

I will force him to climb the mountain صعود.

Question 18

إِنَّهُ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ ‎﴿١٨﴾

Answer 18

I pondered and summarised.

Question 19

فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ ‎﴿١٩﴾

Answer 19

Death onto him, how bad is the summary he put forward.

Question 20

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ ‎﴿٢٠﴾‏

Answer 20

Again death onto him, how bad is the summary he put forward.

Question 21

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ ‎﴿٢١﴾

Answer 21

Then he looked (to those around him).

Question 22

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ ‎﴿٢٢﴾

Answer 22

Then he frowned and scowled.

Question 23

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ ‎﴿٢٣﴾‏

Answer 23

Then turned his back and waxed proud.

Question 24

فَقَالَ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ ‎﴿٢٤﴾

Answer 24

Then said: ‘This is nothing but traditional magic’.

Question 25

إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ ‎﴿٢٥﴾

Answer 25

This is nothing but saying of a mortal.

Question 26

سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ ‎﴿٢٦﴾

Answer 26

I will put him into سقر (Hellfire).

Question 27

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سَقَرُ ‎﴿٢٧﴾

Answer 27

And what can let you know what سقر is?

Question 28

لَا تُبْقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ ‎﴿٢٨﴾‏

Answer 28

It neither spares (anything inside it from burning) nor leaves (any disbeliever outside).

Question 29

لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ ‎﴿٢٩﴾

Answer 29

It will disfigure the skins.

Question 30

عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ ‎﴿٣٠﴾

Answer 30

Appointed on it are 19 (wardens).

Question 31

وَمَا جَعَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَائِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَانًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ وَالْكَافِرُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَن يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ ‎﴿٣١﴾‏

Answer 31

And we did not make wardens of the fire but from angels and did not fix their number but as a test for those who disbelieve. So that those who are given the book may come to believe and those who believe may improve in belief and so that those who are given the book and those who believe may not doubt (its correctness). And so that those having malady in their hearts and the disbelievers say: ‘What has Allah (s.w.t) meant by this strange statement?’. Thus Allah (s.w.t) lets go astray whomever He wills and leads to the right path whomever He wills. And noone knows the hosts of your Lord but He. And this is nothing else but a reminder for mankind.

Question 32

كَلَّا وَالْقَمَرِ ‎﴿٣٢﴾

Answer 32

Truly I swear by the moon.

Question 33

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ ‎﴿٣٣﴾

Answer 33

And by the night when it goes back.

Question 34

وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ ‎﴿٣٤﴾‏

Answer 34

And by the morning when it becomes bright.

Question 35

إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى الْكُبَرِ ‎﴿٣٥﴾‏

Answer 35

It (سقر) is one of the greates things.

Question 36

نَذِيرًا لِّلْبَشَرِ ‎﴿٣٦﴾

Answer 36

As a warning to mankind.

Question 37

لِمَن شَاءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ ‎﴿٣٧﴾‏

Answer 37

To the one from amongst you who wishes to come forward (towards good deeds) or go back (from them).

Question 38

كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ ‎﴿٣٨﴾

Answer 38

Everyone will be detained (in The Hell) because of what he did.

Question 39

إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ ‎﴿٣٩﴾

Answer 39

Except the people of the right (the ones who will be given their book of deeds in their right hand).

Question 40

فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ ‎﴿٤٠﴾

Answer 40

Who will be in gardens asking.

Question 41

عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ ‎﴿٤١﴾

Answer 41

About the guilty persons.

Question 42

مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ ‎﴿٤٢﴾

Answer 42

What has brought you to سقر?

Question 43

قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ ‎﴿٤٣﴾

Answer 43

They will say: ‘We were not amongst those who offered salah (obligatory prayer)’.

Question 44

وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ ‎﴿٤٤﴾

Answer 44

And we did not give food to the needy.

Question 45

وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ ‎﴿٤٥﴾

Answer 45

And we indulged (in mocking at the truth) along with those who indulged.

Question 46

وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ ‎﴿٤٦﴾

Answer 46

And we used to deny The Day of Judgement.

Question 47

حَتَّىٰ أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ ‎﴿٤٧﴾‏

Answer 47

Until we were overtaken by that which is certain (death).

Question 48

فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ ‎﴿٤٨﴾‏

Answer 48

Then, intercession of intercessors will not benefit them.

Question 49

فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ ‎﴿٤٩﴾

Answer 49

So what happened to them that they are turning away from the reminder.

Question 50

كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ ‎﴿٥٠﴾

Answer 50

As if they were wild donkeys.

Question 51

فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍ ‎﴿٥١﴾‏

Answer 51

Fleeing from a lion.

Question 52

بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُّنَشَّرَةً ‎﴿٥٢﴾‏

Answer 52

Rather everyone of them wishes that he should be given unrolled divine scriptures.

Question 53

كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ الْآخِرَةَ ‎﴿٥٣﴾

Answer 53

Never, but they do not fear The Hereafter.

Question 54

كَلَّا إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ ‎﴿٥٤﴾‏

Answer 54

Never, indeed this is a reminder.

Question 55

فَمَن شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ ‎﴿٥٥﴾

Answer 55

So whoever so whishes may take advice from it (revelation).

Question 56

وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ ‎﴿٥٦﴾‏

Answer 56

And they will not take advice unless Allah (s.w.t) so wills. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive.
