سورة الجمعة : The Assembly Prayer (Friday)

Question 1

يُسَبِّحُ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَكِيمِ ‎﴿١﴾‏

Answer 1

All that is in The Heavens and all that is in The Earth proclaims the purity of Allah (s.w.t), The Sovereign, The Supreme in Holiness, The All-Mighty, The All-Wise.

Question 2

هُوَ الَّذِي بَعَثَ فِي الْأُمِّيِّينَ رَسُولًا مِّنْهُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِهِ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَإِن كَانُوا مِن قَبْلُ لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ ‎﴿٢﴾

Answer 2

He (s.w.t) is The One who raised amidst the unlettered people a messenger from amongst themselves who recites to them His (s.w.t) verses and purifies them and teaches them the book and the wisdom whilst they were earlier in open error.

Question 3

وَآخَرِينَ مِنْهُمْ لَمَّا يَلْحَقُوا بِهِمْ ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ ‎﴿٣﴾‏

Answer 3

And (this messenger is sent also) to others from them who did not join them so far and He (s.w.t) is The All-Mighty, The All-Wise.

Question 4

ذَٰلِكَ فَضْلُ اللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَاءُ ۚ وَاللَّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ ‎﴿٤﴾‏

Answer 4

It is Allah (s.w.t)’s bounty that He (s.w.t) gives to whomsoever He (s.w.t) wills. And Allah (s.w.t) is The Lord of the great bounty.

Question 5

مَثَلُ الَّذِينَ حُمِّلُوا التَّوْرَاةَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَحْمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ الْحِمَارِ يَحْمِلُ أَسْفَارًا ۚ بِئْسَ مَثَلُ الْقَوْمِ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ ‎﴿٥﴾

Answer 5

The example of those who were ordered to bear (the responsibility of acting upon) the Tawrah then they did not bear it is like a donkey that carries a load of books. Evil is the example of those who have rejected Allah (s.w.t)’s verses. And Allah (s.w.t) does not guide the wrongdoing people.

Question 6

قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ هَادُوا إِن زَعَمْتُمْ أَنَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ لِلَّهِ مِن دُونِ النَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُا الْمَوْتَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ ‎﴿٦﴾‏

Answer 6

Say: ‘Oh you who are Jews, if you claim that you are the friends of Allah (s.w.t) to the exclusion of all other people, then express your desire for death if you are true’.

Question 7

وَلَا يَتَمَنَّوْنَهُ أَبَدًا بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِالظَّالِمِينَ ‎﴿٧﴾

Answer 7

And they will never express this desire because of what their hearts have sent ahead. And Allah (s.w.t) is fully aware of the wrongdoers.

Question 8

قُلْ إِنَّ الْمَوْتَ الَّذِي تَفِرُّونَ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ مُلَاقِيكُمْ ۖ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ‎﴿٨﴾‏

Answer 8

Say: ‘Indeed the death from which you (try to) run away has to visit you then you will be sent back to The Knower of the unseen and the seen and He (s.w.t) will tell you what you used to do’.

Question 9

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا نُودِيَ لِلصَّلَاةِ مِن يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَاسْعَوْا إِلَىٰ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَذَرُوا الْبَيْعَ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ ‎﴿٩﴾‏

Answer 9

Oh you who believe, when the call for salah is proclaimed on Friday, haste for the rememberence of Allah (s.w.t) and leave off business. That is much better for you, if you but not know.

Question 10

فَإِذَا قُضِيَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَانتَشِرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَابْتَغُوا مِن فَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ ‎﴿١٠﴾

Answer 10

Then once the salah is over, disperse in the land and seek the grace of Allah (s.w.t) and remember Allah (s.w.t) abundantly so that you may be successful

Question 11

وَإِذَا رَأَوْا تِجَارَةً أَوْ لَهْوًا انفَضُّوا إِلَيْهَا وَتَرَكُوكَ قَائِمًا ۚ قُلْ مَا عِندَ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ مِّنَ اللَّهْوِ وَمِنَ التِّجَارَةِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ خَيْرُ الرَّازِقِينَ ‎﴿١١﴾‏

Answer 11

And when they see some merchandise or amusement, they break away to it and leave you (Oh prophet (s.a.w)) standing. Say: ‘What is with Allah (s.w.t) is much better than the amusement and the merchandise’. And Allah (s.w.t) is the Best Giver of Sustenance.
