سورة المزمل : The One Folded in Garments Flashcards
يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلُ ﴿١﴾
Oh you wrapped up in clothes.
قُمِ اللَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ﴿٢﴾
Stand at night (for prayer) except a little.
نِّصْفَهُ أَوِ انقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا ﴿٣﴾
Half of it or make it a little less.
أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا ﴿٤﴾
Or make it a little more and recite The Qur’an clearly with ترتيل (in a distinct and measured tone).
إِنَّا سَنُلْقِي عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا ﴿٥﴾
We are going to send down to you a weighty discourse.
إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ اللَّيْلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطْئًا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا ﴿٦﴾
Truly, rising by night (for prayer of tahajjud) is the most effective way to subdue (one’s self).
إِنَّ لَكَ فِي النَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا ﴿٧﴾
Surely in daytime you have a lengthy work to do.
وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا ﴿٨﴾
And remember The Names of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion.
رَّبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَاتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا ﴿٩﴾
The Lord of the east and the west. There is no God but He. So take Him for your Guardian.
وَاصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا ﴿١٠﴾
And fear patiently what they say (the opposition) and part with them in a beautiful manner.
وَذَرْنِي وَالْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُولِي النَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا ﴿١١﴾
And leave Me alone (to deal) with the deniers, the people of luxury and give them respite for a while.
إِنَّ لَدَيْنَا أَنكَالًا وَجَحِيمًا ﴿١٢﴾
Surely with Us are fetters and flaming fire.
وَطَعَامًا ذَا غُصَّةٍ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًا ﴿١٣﴾
And food that chokes and a painful punishment.
يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ الْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَّهِيلًا ﴿١٤﴾
On The Day when the earth and the mountains will quake and the mountains will turn into a slipping heap of sand.
إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًا شَاهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًا ﴿١٥﴾
Oh people, We have sent to you a messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to pharoah.
فَعَصَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ الرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَاهُ أَخْذًا وَبِيلًا ﴿١٦﴾
Then pharoah disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure.
فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِن كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًا يَجْعَلُ الْوِلْدَانَ شِيبًا ﴿١٧﴾
So if you disbelieve, how will you save yourself from A Day that will turn the small boys into grey haired old men.
السَّمَاءُ مُنفَطِرٌ بِهِ ۚ كَانَ وَعْدُهُ مَفْعُولًا ﴿١٨﴾
Whereby the sky will burst apart, His promise has to be fulfilled.
إِنَّ هَٰذِهِ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَن شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ سَبِيلًا ﴿١٩﴾
Indeed this is a reminder, so let anyone who so wishes adopt a way to his Lord.
۞ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَيِ اللَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُ وَثُلُثَهُ وَطَائِفَةٌ مِّنَ الَّذِينَ مَعَكَ ۚ وَاللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ ۚ عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ۚ عَلِمَ أَن سَيَكُونُ مِنكُم مَّرْضَىٰ ۙ وَآخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِن فَضْلِ اللَّهِ ۙ وَآخَرُونَ يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۖ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ ۚ وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَأَقْرِضُوا اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا ۚ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ اللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرًا وَأَعْظَمَ أَجْرًا ۚ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا اللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ ﴿٢٠﴾
Your Lord knows that you stand (in prayer) for nearly 2/3rds of the night (at times) for 1/2 of it (and at times) for 1/3 of it and a group of those who are with you. And Allah (s.w.t) measures the night and the day. He knows that you, oh muslims cannot do it in a regular way, therefore He turned to you in mercy, now recite as much of The Qur’an as easy for you. He knows that some of you may be sick, and other travelling in the land seeking the grace of Allah (s.w.t). And yet others fighting in Allah (s.w.t)’s way, recite as much of it as is easy. And establish salah and pay zakat and advance to Allah (s.w.t) a goodly loan. And whatever good you will send ahead for your ownselves. You will find it with Allah (s.w.t) much better in condition and much greater in reward. And seek forgiveness from Allah (s.w.t), indeed Allah (s.w.t) is Most Forgiving, Very Merciful.
